Arrival in Santiago

On my first trip to South America, I'm here for the Society of American Travel Writers Annual Conference, also my first. I'll share some photos and notes as I can.

Reeling from a lack of sleep thanks to a couple of Outward Bound instructor trainees who decided to chat all night next to me on the plane (and the general discomfort of sleeping on a plane) I’ve arrived in Santiago, Chile after a day spent in transit. Haven’t seen a lot yet but am signed up for a noontime tour.

From the bus thus far, airport to hotel: the city is ringed by massive mountains, the landscape is desert-like but bursting with flowers in bloom, and homes range from the odd little shacks to modern apartment buildings. More to follow later today, after I get some more photos.

And a special note to a special boy:
Happy birthday, Ashton! I’m now in the Land of Paz!
