Reflections along the Appalachian Trail at Pine Grove Furnace State Park on a bitter day

Pine Grove Furnace State Park south of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania is notable for being the mid-point of the Appalachian Trail. It seems like it's too far north for that, but no ... this is the official stop for the Half-Gallon club and it's also home to the new Appalachian Trail Museum.

When I lived in Pennsylvania, I came here frequently for hiking and hiker fellowship, hanging out at the Ironmasters Hostel.  My last stay there was on a very snowy weekend - I got stuck in the Harrisburg airport afterwards - and I made a point of capturing the cold on film that day. It echoed a lot of what was going on in my life at the time - tough to tell which way is up.
