The Angel Oak
A stately ancient live oak thought to be more than 1,500 years old, the Angel Oak is on John's Island in the South Carolina Lowcountry near Charleston.
In a wooded glade on John's Island, near Charleston, the Angel Oak is a silent sentinel to the wash of history across these shores. The Charleston Parks Conservancy calls it one of the "oldest living things east of the Mississippi River," and from its size and grandeur, there is no question of its age. It is a remarkable testament of resilience.
